SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 17:20

17:20a Then he cried out to the LORD,

Then Elijah called out to Yahweh. He said,
-or-
Then Elijah prayed to Yahweh for help. He said,

17:20b “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on this widow who has opened her home to me,

“Yahweh, my God, have you (sing) caused this disaster/suffering to happen to this widow in whose home I am a guest?
-or-
“O Yahweh, the God I serve! Is it from you (sing), this terrible event in the life of this widow with whom I am staying?
-or-
“Why, Yahweh my God, have you have allowed this further tragedy? ⌊You should have protected⌋ this widow who is letting me stay in her house!

17:20c by causing her son to die?”

Have you (sing) caused the death of her son?”
-or-
Have you (sing) made her son die?”
-or-
But you (sing) have caused her son to die!”
