12:10a The young men who had grown up with him replied,
The young men with whom Rehoboam had grown up said to him,

The young men of Rehoboam’s own age gave him this answer/advice.

Rehoboam’s young friends/counselors told him that
12:10b “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy,
“These people said to you, (sing) ‘Your father put a heavy yoke/burden on us.

“These people told you that your father made their work/load heavy
-or-
he should reject their request. The people were complaining that his father Solomon had made them work very/too hard.
12:10c but you should make it lighter.’
Lighten/Lessen (sing) our yoke/burden!’
-or-
and that you should not demand/require so much work from them.
-or-
They wanted him to give them ⌊only⌋ light/easy work.
12:10d This is what you should tell them:
You (sing) should say to them,
-or-
You should tell them that
-or-
Rehoboam’s friends/counselors advised him to tell the people that
12:10e ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!
‘My little finger is bigger than my father’s whole body!
-or-
you are much more harsh/demanding than your father was.
-or-
his little finger was bigger/stronger than his father’s body/torso.
