SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 1:13

1:13a Go at once to King David and say,

Go (sing) to King David and tell him,
-or-
He said “Pay (sing) a visit to David the king, and ⌊here is what you should⌋ say:
-or-
He told her that she should go (sing) and ⌊humbly⌋ remind King David

1:13b ‘My lord the king, did you not swear to your maidservant,

‘You, my lord the/and king, swore ⌊this oath⌋ to me, your humble servant:
-or-
‘My master/ruler the king, ⌊I heard you clearly when⌋ you gave your word of honor to me, your lowly/humble ⌊wife⌋, saying
-or-
that he himself had made a solemn promise to her.

1:13c “Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne”?

“Certainly it will be your son Solomon who will be king after me. He will be the one to sit on my throne ⌊and reign⌋.”
-or-
that our (excl.) son Solomon will be king when you die. One day he will be seated on the royal seat ⌊, the king’s place⌋.
-or-
He had promised to make their son Solomon the heir to the kingdom. He had promised that he/Solomon would rule as king ⌊over Israel⌋.

1:13d Why then has Adonijah become king?’

So why is Adonijah the new king?’
-or-
So why have they now made/proclaimed Adonijah king ⌊and not Solomon⌋ ?’
-or-
Bathsheba should ask (sing) David why Adonijah had made/declared himself the king ⌊instead of Solomon⌋.
