SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 11:13

11:13a Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom away from him.

But I will not snatch/take all the kingdom from him.
-or-
However I will not deprive him of the entire kingdom.

11:13b I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David

I will leave him one tribe. ⌊I will do this⌋ out of love/respect for my servant David,
-or-
I will allow him to rule one tribe, because ⌊I honor/remember⌋ David, who served me,

11:13c and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”

and out of love/respect for Jerusalem, ⌊the city⌋ that I have chosen.”
-or-
and because I have chosen Jerusalem ⌊city⌋ ⌊to be my own⌋.”

11:13b-c (reordered)

For the sake of ⌊your (sing) father⌋ David, who served me, and Jerusalem, ⌊the city⌋ that I have chosen, I will allow your son to be king of one of the tribes ⌊of Israel⌋.”
