28:3a but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My Name,

Then God said to me, ‘David, you(sing) will not be ⌊the one⌋ who will build a house ⌊to honor⌋ my name.

But God told me not to build the house of Yahweh for him

28:3b because you are a man of war who has spilled blood.

You(sing) are a soldier who has spilt blood.’

because I had killed people in battle.

‘You(sing) are a fighter. You have caused people to bleed to death in your wars. Therefore you should not build a house/temple for me,’ God said to me.

This is what Yahweh said to me. ‘⌊David,⌋ you(sing) are a man of war, responsible for the death of many people. For this reason, you will not be the one to build a house for ⌊people to worship⌋ my name.’
