Section 27:1-15 These were King David’s military leaders

27:1a This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds

In Israel ⌊country⌋ , some clan leaders were military commanders. ⌊They led groups⌋ of one thousand ⌊fighting men⌋ or one hundred {fighting men},

These were the people of Israel ⌊who led the king’s troops⌋ . They were chiefs of families and chiefs of soldiers. ⌊They had authority⌋ over troops of thousands and hundreds.

27:1b and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions

along with their officers. {Their job was} to serve the king by supervising the army.

They and their officers/administrators served the king in all the matters regarding the troops of the king’s soldiers.

27:1c on rotating military duty each month throughout the year.

These leaders ⌊each⌋ served for one month each year.

Each month of the year a ⌊different⌋ chief/leader was responsible

27:1d There were 24,000 men in each division:

Each ⌊of them was a commander over a⌋ group of twenty-four thousand fighting men.

to manage a troop of twenty four thousand (24,000) soldiers.

27:1a–d (reordered)

Each month, a group of 24,000 men were the king’s servants. They worked for him in everything that was about the army. Among these men were leaders of clans, officers over groups of 1,000 or 100 men. Among them, there were also other men who worked for the king. Each group worked for one month each year. This is a list of their names. (Easy English Bible)
