Joab and the ⌊Israelite⌋ army went out for war in the spring. It was the time of the year when kings ⌊normally⌋ would go out to fight. But king David ⌊at first⌋ stayed in Jerusalem. ⌊Later he/David took more troops and went to help Joab.⌋ Joab destroyed the land of the Ammonites and he came to ⌊the main city/capital called⌋ Rabbah. He put his soldiers all around it, conquered it and ruined the buildings in Rabbah.

⌊In that region⌋ kings usually went to war in spring time. But ⌊one year king⌋ David stayed in Jerusalem. He sent his commander Joab ⌊with the army⌋ instead.
