The Greek that is typically translated in English as “believe” (in John 2:23) and “(en)trust” in (in John 2:24) uses the same verb (pisteuó) in both verses, creating a parallelism that, while commented on in some English versions, is not immediately discernible. In some other languages, including Polish (uwierzyło – powierzał), French (crurent – croyait), or Mandarin Chinese (xìn / 信 – xìnrèn 信任), this connection is naturally visible.
