When Greek in Mark 1:40 that is translated as “a man with a skin disease (or: a leper) came” in English was translated into a performance in Vute, the “performance translation adds the parenthetic religious-cultural information for the Vuté audience: ‘At that time, a leper must not be with people in the village.’ The translators felt that the information about the communal separation due to impurity was not immediately available to the Vuté audience.
