SIL Translator’s Notes on Amos 4:13

4:13a For behold, He who forms the mountains,

Know (plur.) this: God created the mountains
-or-
“Now look! (plur.) I am ⌊the God⌋ who makes the high hills.

4:13b who creates the wind

and the wind.
-or-

I am the God⌋ who caused the wind ⌊to blow⌋ .

4:13c and reveals His thoughts to man,

He shows his plans to people.
-or-
And ⌊I am the God⌋ who lets human beings know my thoughts.

4:13d who turns the dawn to darkness

He makes morning to be like night,

I am the God⌋ who turns sunrise into sunset.

4:13e and strides on the heights of the earth—

and he walks on the highest places of the world/earth.

And ⌊I am the God who⌋ stands on the top of the world’s mountain peaks.

4:13f the LORD, the God of Hosts, is His name.”

His name is Yahweh, the most powerful God.

My name is Yahweh. I am the God who controls hosts/armies of angels.”

My name is Yahweh. ⌊Remember!⌋ I am the one who created the mountains and the wind. I am the one who reveals my thoughts to mankind. I am the one who turns dawn to darkness. I am the one who walks on the heights of the earth. I am God, the one who commands the armies of heaven.
