Section 19:1-21
A Levite’s concubine ran away
19:1a Now in those days, when there was no king in Israel,
At that time there was no king in Israel.
-or-
When these things took place, the people of Israel had no king.
19:1b a Levite who lived in the remote hill country of Ephraim
There was a Levite man who had settled far off in the hills of the Ephraim clan.
-or-
A man from the clan of Levi lived in the mountains of Ephraim, far from other people.
19:1c took for himself a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah.
He married a slave wife from Bethlehem in Judah.
-or-
He took a woman to be his wife from the town of Bethlehem in the land of Judah.
