13:5a For behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son.

You are going to conceive, and you will have a son.

For you really will become pregnant and you will give birth to a son.

13:5b And no razor shall come over his head,

No one should ever use a razor on the hair of his head.

The hair on his head must never be cut.

13:5c because the boy will be a Nazirite to God from the womb,

This is because the boy will be a Nazirite. He will be dedicated to God from the moment he is born.

From the day of his birth, your son will be set apart to serve God.

For your son will live his whole life dedicated to God.

13:5a-c (reordered)

This is because the boy will be a Nazirite. He will be dedicated to God while still in the womb. So after you conceive and give birth, no one should ever use a razor on the hair of his head.

13:5d and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”

He will begin to rescue Israel from the rule of the Philistines.”
