6:32a So on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal, that is to say, “Let Baal contend with him,”

He was nicknamed Jerub-Baal. People said, “Let Baal defend himself against Gideon,”

People called him Jerub-Baal. ⌊It means “Let Baal defend himself.” They called him by that⌋ because they thought, “Baal should defend himself,”

6:32b because he had torn down Baal’s altar.

because Gideon destroyed the altar of Baal
