SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 21:2

21:2a And he did evil in the sight of the LORD

Manasseh acted in a way that was wrong in the sight of Yahweh.

-or-

The things that Manasseh did displeased Yahweh.

21:2b by following the abominations of the nations

⌊He did⌋ the same abominable things that people of the ⌊other/pagan⌋ nations did.

-or-

⌊He acted⌋ in the same disgusting way that the former inhabitants/residents of the land ⌊had acted⌋ .

21:2c that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.

⌊These nations⌋ the Lord had chased away when the Israelites arrived ⌊in the land⌋ .

The Lord had removed these people ⌊from the land⌋ when the people of Israel ⌊had settled there⌋ .
