SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 17:25

17:25a Now when the settlers first lived there,

When they first came to live there

-or-

At first

17:25b they did not worship the LORD,

these people did not worship Yahweh.

-or-

these foreign people did not serve Yahweh.

17:25a-b (reordered)

But these foreign settlers did not worship Yahweh when they first arrived.

17:25c so He sent lions among them,

So Yahweh caused lions to go among/near their homes/towns.

-or-

As a result Yahweh sent ⌊dangerous/aggressive⌋ lions into the land.

17:25d which killed some of them.

The lions killed some of the people ⌊who had settled in the land⌋ .

-or-

The lions attacked and killed some of these foreign settlers.
