SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 11:12

11:12a Then Jehoiada brought out the king’s son

Jehoiada brought out the king’s son ⌊Joash⌋ ⌊from the temple⌋ .

-or-

Then Jehoiada led out ⌊Joash,⌋ the son of King ⌊Ahaziah⌋ ,

11:12b put the crown on him,

He/Jehoida put the king’s crown on his head

-or-

and crowned him king.

11:12c presented him with the Testimony,

and handed to him a copy of the ⌊king’s/royal⌋ pact/agreement.

-or-

Then he/Jehoida gave Joash a document ⌊that contained/explained⌋ the solemn agreement ⌊between God and the king⌋ .

11:12d and proclaimed him king.

Then he declared Joash to be the ⌊new⌋ king.

-or-

He announced that Joash was now the king ⌊of Judah⌋ ,

11:12e They anointed him,

They anointed Joash with oil

-or-

and he poured ⌊ceremonial⌋ oil on his head.

11:12f and the people clapped their hands

and everyone ⌊present/watching⌋ clapped their hands.

-or-

The people ⌊showed their joy⌋ with clapping

11:12g and declared, “Long live the king!”

They shouted, “May the king live for a long time!”

-or-

and loud cries of “Long life for the king!”
