SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 4:29

4:29a So Elisha said to Gehazi,

Elisha ⌊turned/looked⌋ to Gehazi and said,

-or-

Hearing this⌋ Elisha said to Gehazi,

4:29b “Tie up your garment,

“Tie/Belt (sing.) up your robe!

-or-

“Get (sing.) yourself ready ⌊to run back to her house⌋ .

4:29c take my staff in your hand, and go!

Take (sing.) my staff with you and go ⌊quickly⌋ .

-or-

Go/Leave (sing.)at once⌋ ! Carry/Take my walking stick ⌊with you⌋ .

4:29d If you meet anyone, do not greet him,

Do (sing.) not ⌊stop⌋ to give greetings to anyone you meet/see ⌊on the way/road⌋ .

-or-

Do (sing.) not ⌊spend/waste time⌋ talking to anyone ⌊on your way⌋ .

4:29e and if anyone greets you, do not answer him.

If someone greets you (sing.)on the way/road⌋ , do not answer him.

-or-

Do (sing.) not respond to anyone who tries to talk to/with you.

4:29d-e (combined)

Do (sing.) not stop to exchange greetings with anyone ⌊as you go/travel⌋ .

4:29f Then lay my staff on the boy’s face.”

Go quickly and⌋ place (sing.) my staff on the face of the boy.”

And when you reach the house,⌋ put (sing.) my walking stick over the child’s face.”
