36:17a So He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans,

Yahweh brought the king of Babylon to attack them.

Yahweh sent ⌊King Nebuchadnezzar,⌋ the king of Babylon ⌊and his soldiers⌋ to fight them.

36:17b who put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,

The king let his men kill their young men with the sword in the temple.

The king ⌊and his soldiers⌋ killed Judah’s young men in the house of God.

36:17c sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm.

He had no compassion on young men or young women, nor on old people and the infirm.

He showed no mercy to anyone, whether young men or young women, or the old people or the weak people.

36:17d God gave them all into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar,

God handed all of them over to Nebuchadnezzar.

God let King Nebuchadnezzar take all of them.
