33:23a but he did not humble himself before the LORD as his father Manasseh had done;

But Amon did not make himself humble before Yahweh like his father Manasseh did.

But although his father confessed to Yahweh that he was wrong, Amon never did.

33:23b instead, Amon increased his guilt.

He kept on sinning.

Instead he sinned even more ⌊than his father had⌋.
