SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 2:6

2:6a But who is able to build a house for Him,

But who can really build a house for him?
-or-
But no one can really build a house for our (excl.) God.

2:6b since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him?

The heavens, even the highest heavens are not big enough for him to live in.
-or-
The whole of the highest heaven is too small for him to live in.

2:6c Who then am I, that I should build a house for Him,

I ask myself this question,⌋ ‘Who am I to pretend to build a house for him?’
-or-
I know that⌋ I am not worthy to build him a house to live in.

2:6d except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?

All I can do is build a place to burn sacrifices before him.
-or-
But I will build a place where we (excl.) can burn sacrifices to him.
