15:2a Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God,

At that time David gave a command. He said, “No one but ⌊the descendants of⌋ Levi may carry the ark of God.

After ⌊these preparations,⌋ David gave an order. He ordered that only the ⌊people of the tribe⌋ of Levi could carry the box of God.

15:2b because the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister before Him forever.”

⌊I say that⌋ because Yahweh chose them to carry the ark and to serve him forever.”

⌊He gave this order⌋ because the Lord had selected the Levites to carry the box of Yahweh. ⌊He gave this order so they would⌋ minster before him forever.

15:2a–b (combined and reordered)

Then David siad that Yahweh chose the Levites to carry the ark of Yahweh and to minister before him forever. Therefore, no one but the Levites should carry the ark of Yahweh.
