5:25a But they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers

But these tribes sinned against the God of their forefathers.

⌊The people of the tribes of Reuben, Gad,⌋ and East Manasseh worshipped other gods. They did not worship the God their ancestors had worshipped.

5:25b and they prostituted themselves with the gods of the peoples of the land,

They worshiped the gods of the people who lived in the land.

Instead, they worshiped the gods of the people of the land,

5:25c whom God had destroyed before them.

They were the nations which God destroyed.

whom God had forced out for them.

5:25a-c

God won the war against the people who were living in the land before the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh came. He was their ancestors’ God. They should have worshipped him, but they didn’t. Instead, they worshipped the gods of those people that God had destroyed.
