5:26a So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria
So the God of Israel caused King Pul of Assyria ⌊to act⌋ .

⌊King Pul was⌋ also known as Tiglath-pileser, the king of Assyria.

5:26c to take the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile.
He ⌊came and invaded the land⌋ . He took the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into captivity.

So the God of Israel caused King Pul of Assyria (also known as Tiglath-pileser) to invade the land. He took away as captives the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

So the God whom the people of Israel ⌊ought to have worshiped⌋ caused Pul, the king of Assyria, to come fight those ⌊Israelite⌋ tribes. Pul’s other name was Tiglath-pileser. His ⌊army⌋ captured the people of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the eastern half of the tribe of Manasseh. ⌊The king⌋ took them to live in ⌊various places in Assyria⌋ .
5:26d And he brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river of Gozan,
The Assyrians exiled them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and to the Gozan River.
