Translation commentary on Luke 18:37

Exegesis:

apēggeilan de autō ‘they told him,’ without indication of subject.

Iēsous ho Nazōraios parerchetai ‘Jesus the man from Nazareth is passing by,’ direct speech introduced by hoti. parerchomai is virtually equivalent to diaporeuomai in v. 36. Nazōraios is best understood as equivalent to Nazarēnos (cf. 4.34).

Translation:

They told him. The subject may have to become, ‘people,’ ‘those near him,’ if not specified already in v. 36.

Jesus of Nazareth, cf. on 4.34.
