Amaziah … lived fifteen years after the death of Joash …: Even though Amaziah had been defeated by King Jehoash of Israel, he outlived Jehoash by fifteen years. For reasons of English style, Good News Translation does not translate the phrases the son of Joash and the son of Jehoahaz since that information was already given in verses 17 and 23. This verse may be expressed as follows:

• King Amaziah of Judah lived fifteen more years after King Jehoash of Israel died.
