And they were there with David for three days …: The adverb there refers to Hebron, which Contemporary English Version makes explicit.
For their brethren had made preparation for them: Their brethren may refer to the members of the tribe of Judah. Parole de Vie says more specifically “their brothers of Hebron.” Good News Translation says “their relatives,” which will probably be understood as family relatives from all of the tribes mentioned. Bible en français courant has “their fellow citizens.” Made preparation for them implies that the relatives furnished the food and drinks necessary for the feast. New Revised Standard Version says “provided for them.”
