Because of her I shall have immortality may be rendered “If I have Wisdom, I will be immortal” or even “Because of Wisdom I will live forever.”

And leave an everlasting remembrance to those who come after me: Good News Translation expresses this well. It would be possible to combine these two lines as Contemporary English Version does with “Because of Wisdom, my name will live on forever.” But since for our author there is a personal immortality with God as well as an immortality in human memory, it would be best not to do so. Compare Sir 39.9-11.

A possible model for the whole verse is:

• Because of Wisdom I will live forever, and those who come after me will never forget me.
