They will come with dread when their sins are reckoned up: When Judgment Day comes, the ungodly will find that they must stand in cowardly fear while all their sins are counted (reckoned up), the sins they talked about so bravely in 2.6-20. With dread is more literally “as cowards.” They will not be so brave then. New English Bible translates “they will come cringing.” We could say “They will come cringing [or cowering] in fear to the Judgment, to hear their sins counted [or, added up].”

And their lawless deeds will convict them to their face: The word translated convict may be rendered “disgrace” or “accuse.” To their face is literally “directly, openly.” We would suggest this: “and confront the [full] shame of their lawless acts.”
