Let us see if his words are true, and let us test what will happen at the end of his life: These lines are an implied threat. The ungodly intend to perform an experiment: they will kill the righteous, so they can observe their death and see if they are as happy about it as they say they would be. They’ll see where all that righteousness gets righteous people at the end. Good News Translation conveys the tone well.
