New Revised Standard Version and Good News Translation open a new paragraph at this point, and this is recommended to translators.
Sister: She is addressed in Good News Translation as “my dear” and in Contemporary English Version by name, “Edna.” Translators need to study the social context carefully and then decide what form of address by an elderly man to his wife will be appropriate (see 5.21).
The other room is literal. “The spare room,” used by Good News Translation and New English Bible, is a term used in English to refer to a room in the house reserved for the use of guests; and this may not be what is intended here. Perhaps it is Sarah’s own room, or even a special room. New American Bible says “the other bedroom,” which is a good solution.
