Do not look around in the streets of a city, nor wander about in its deserted sections: In colloquial American English, this means “Don’t go cruising.” This is a warning about wandering about in parts of a city where prostitutes are likely to be found. Good News Translation introduces this verse with the connector “So.” This joins the verse to the preceding one, and makes the warning here clearly follow from the warning in verse 6. Some translators may wish to make the meaning clearer, and say something like “Don’t go wandering around in parts of town where prostitutes are found.” Compare Pro 7.6-9. Contemporary English Version‘s model is helpful:
• So don’t look for them;
stay off the lonely streets
where they are found.
