Translation commentary on Sirach 39:18

At his command whatever pleases him is done is literally “At his command all his good pleasure,” with no verb. Good News Translation omits the important idea of “good pleasure.” We could say “Whatever he wants is done at his command [or, when he commands it],” “When he commands, they do whatever he wants,” or even “He wants something, and when he commands, it is done.”

And none can limit his saving power: Good News Translation omits a personal element in this line. It means “No one can limit his saving deeds [or, power to save].” New Jerusalem Bible is very good with “no one can stop him, if he intends to save.”
