2:8a The LORD determined to destroy

Yahweh planned to destroy
-or-
Yahweh decided to ruin

2:8b the wall of the Daughter of Zion.

the strong walls of Zion. (Easy English Bible)

the ⌊protective⌋ walls around Jerusalem.

2:8c He stretched out a measuring line

It was as though he measured the walls (Translation for Translators)
-or-

As builders draw a straight line to build a wall, so⌋ God used a line

2:8d and did not withdraw His hand from destroying.

and then he completely destroyed them. (Translation for Translators)

to break down ⌊the walls of Jerusalem⌋ .

God took great care to destroy the walls of Jerusalem.

He carefully broke away each stone. (Easy English Bible)

2:8e He made the ramparts and walls lament;

It was as though he caused the towers and walls to lament (Translation for Translators)

As a result of this⌋ the inner and outer protective walls ⌊of Jerusalem⌋ mourned ⌊like sad people⌋ .

2:8f together they waste away.

and weep, because they were now in ruins.
