Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 10:22

Then he slew these men who had turned traitor, and immediately captured the two towers: These men who had turned traitor may be rendered “the men who had become traitors” or simply “the traitors” (Good News Bible). Immediately captured the two towers does not mean that as soon as the traitors were executed, the Jewish soldiers captured the towers. Rather, that as soon as the traitors were put to death, the soldiers resumed the attack on the towers and quickly captured them. Immediately is better rendered “quickly.” The sentence here can continue in the next verse (see the model there).
