5:7a When the king of Israel read the letter,
When the king of Israel read this letter,

⌊Naaman gave⌋ the letter to the king of Israel. The king read it
5:7b he tore his clothes and asked,
he ⌊was upset and⌋ ripped his clothes. He said,

and tore his clothes ⌊to show his distress/dismay⌋ . He shouted,
5:7c “Am I God,
“Am I God? ⌊No!⌋

“I am not God!
5:7d killing and giving life,
Am I able to make people live or die? ⌊No!⌋

I cannot kill ⌊anyone/people⌋ or make ⌊them⌋ alive again!
5:7e that this man expects me to cure a leper?
⌊So⌋ why has that man/king sent me a man sick with leprosy for me to cure?
-or-
It is no use/good asking me to heal someone from/with this serious skin disease!
5:7f Surely you can see that he is seeking a quarrel with me!”
You (plur.) must realize/understand that he is only looking for an excuse to go to war with me!”

This just shows that he wants to start a fight with me!”
