Look on this side and that: here are delight and rest, and there are fire and torments!: See verse 36. God tells the wicked people to look on the paradise they will miss, and the fires they are doomed to endure. Look on this side and on that may be rendered “Look on the two sides” or “Look around you” (Good News Bible).
Thus he will speak to them on the day of judgment: Instead of he will speak, the Latin text has “you will speak” (see the Revised Standard Version footnote). We prefer the reading in the Revised Standard Version text since it fits the context better. On the day of judgment may be translated “on the day when God judges everybody.”
Good News Bible provides a fine model for this verse, but the following footnote should be added after “he will say”:
