And I sent him and led my people out of Egypt: In this context the verb sent means “commissioned” (so Stone, page 418). This clause may be rendered “I led my people out of Egypt through him” or “I used him to lead my people out of Egypt.” Revised Standard Version‘s textual footnote here is unnecessary. Some ancient versions have “he [Moses] led,” but the Latin text has “I led,” which fits this context well.
And I led him up on Mount Sinai, where I kept him with me many days: For comments on Mount Sinai, see 2 Esd 2.33, where it is called “Mount Horeb.” Many days may be translated “a long time.”
Here is a possible model for this verse:
• I gave him the responsibility of leading my people out of Egypt, and I brought them to Mount Sinai. I led him up on the mountain, and I kept him with me there a long time.
