That there at least thy might keep their statutes which they had not kept in their own land: Their statutes refers to “God’s laws” (Contemporary English Version). Good News Bible provides a helpful model for this verse, but another possible one is:

• There they hoped to keep God’s laws for them, which they had failed to keep in their own country.
