But it happened that when my son entered his wedding chamber, he fell down and died: The young man died before he ever slept with his bride (compare Tob 3.8). The clause it happened will be natural in some languages, but in many others it may be omitted (so Good News Bible). Here is an alternative model for this verse:

• “But on the wedding night, when my son entered the bedroom, he suddenly fell dead.
