But they did not belong to the family of those men through whom deliverance was given to Israel: Good News Bible provides a good model here for translators who are not following our author in avoiding direct references to God. For those who are, we suggest the following model:

• Besides, these men did not belong to the family of the Maccabees. It was that family that was to have the honor of liberating [or, rescuing] the people of Israel.
