Translation commentary on 1 Maccabees 15:6

I permit you to mint your own coinage as money for your country: Antiochus permits the Jews of Judea to make coins of their own; they no longer have to use the coins of the Seleucid Empire. This was a concession going farther than anything any previous ruler had granted. However, there is no evidence that Judea ever minted coins during Simon’s rule. Antiochus soon revoked this privilege and the other ones (verse 27). Good News Bible‘s translation of this verse is rather involved. Translators may say simply “I will let you make your own coins for use in your country.”
