Jerusalem

The name that is transliterated as “Jerusalem” in English is signed in French Sign Language with a sign that depicts worshiping at the Western Wall in Jerusalem:

Translation commentary on 1 Maccabees 14:19

And these were read before the assembly in Jerusalem: The Greek word for assembly is used in 1Maccabees as a general term; it does not designate a particular governing body, but is simply a “public gathering.” An alternative model for this verse is:

• When Simon received this message, it was read publicly in Jerusalem.
