No one shall have authority to exact anything from them or annoy any of them about any matter: To exact anything means “to collect taxes.” This surely is meant to apply to the occasions mentioned in the previous verse; Good News Bible rightly inserts “on any of these days,” and Contemporary English Version adds “on those special days.” Good News Bible changes the third person references to the Jews to second person by using the pronoun “you” instead of them (see verses 26-30). We recommend this change.

Contemporary English Version has a helpful model for this verse:

• No one will collect taxes from you or bother you for any reason on those special days.
