Each left his place and departed to his own land: Translators may follow Good News Bible‘s model for verses 12 and 13. Other possible models are:

• 12 At that time the foreigners who were stationed in the forts that Bacchides had built abandoned them. 13 Each man fled to his own home country.

• 12 Bacchides had left foreign soldiers in the fortresses that he had built. These men abandoned the forts 13 and returned to their homelands.
