And in order that we might inform you in writing who the leaders are, we questioned them and asked them for a list of the names of those who are at their head: Compare verse 4b. The actual list of the names is not given by the author, but any reader would assume that the list was in writing. For that reason it is not strictly necessary to express in writing explicitly (so Good News Bible). The leaders and those who are at their head refer to the same Jewish leaders, so these phrases may be combined (so Good News Bible). Contemporary English Version reorders the clauses of this verse, by saying “We also asked for the names of these leaders, so that we could write them down for you.” Another model that does this is:
• We also required them to give us a list of the names of their leaders, so that you could know who they are [or, so that you could have them in writing].
