SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Chronicles 24:6

24:6a The scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite,

Shemaiah was a Levite. He was the son of Nethanel and he was the writer.
-or-
Shemaiah was the secretary. He was Nethanel’s son. Shemaiah was from the tribe of Levi. (English Easy-to-Read Version)

24:6b recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers:

He wrote down the names of the priests in front of the king and the officials.

He wrote down the names and assignments in the presence of king David and the leaders.

24:6c Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar,

Zadok the priest, Abiathar’s son Ahimelek,

24:6d and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—

Shemaiah, Nethanel’s son, wrote down the names in the order in which they were drawn. Zadok the priest and Ahimelek Abiathar’s son, cast the lots. Each time they threw the lots a man was chosen, and Shemaiah wrote down that man’s name. Leaders from the families of the priests and of the Levites watched them. So they divided the work among groups of men from the families of Eleazar and Ithamar.

25:7a Together with their relatives, who were all trained and skillful in the songs of the LORD,

27:8a The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite.

⌊The commander in charge⌋ of the fifth division was Shamhuth, a descendant of Izrah. He served in the fifth month ⌊of the year⌋ .

Shamhuth was responsible for the fifth troop during the fifth month ⌊of the year⌋ . He was from the clan/family of Izrah.

27:8b There were 24,000 men in his division.

28:6b for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father.

29:17a I know, my God, that You test the heart and delight in uprightness.

29:17b All these things I have given willingly and with an upright heart,
