Compare 2.13-20 with Isa 53.2-9.
He professes to have knowledge of God: By studying the Torah, the righteous believe they can discover God’s will; Good News Translation has “They claim to know God.” God and Lord in the two clauses refer to the same person, namely God, and may in some languages be combined, as Contemporary English Version does with “They claim to know the Lord God.”
And calls himself a child of the Lord: The Revised Standard Version footnote correctly points out that the word translated child could as well be translated “servant.” But it is best to translate child see verse 16.
For this verse Contemporary English Version will be helpful model for some translators:
• They claim to know the Lord God
and to be his children.
