Translation commentary on Wisdom 14:3

But it is thy providence, O Father, that steers its course: The investors finance the ship, the boat builder constructs it, but God protects it on the water. Good News Translation can be used as a model; another possible approach is “But when it is sailing, O Father, you are the one who steers it.”

Because thou hast given it a path in the sea, and a safe way through the waves: The two lines say approximately the same thing, and some translators may wish to combine them; for example, “You are the one who steers [or, guides] the ship safely through the sea.”
