Translation commentary on Tobit 11:1

When they came: Since this verse begins a new section, it will be helpful for translators to identify who the pronoun they refers to. Contemporary English Version does this by saying “When Tobias and the angel Raphael came….” Raphael was not mentioned in the previous chapter; he last appeared at 9.6.

Kaserin is presumably a town or city, as identified in Good News Translation, but it is otherwise unknown.

Which is opposite Nineveh: This is expressed in Good News Translation as “just outside Nineveh,” and in Contemporary English Version as “not far from Nineveh.” In many languages Nineveh should be identified again as “the city of Nineveh.”
