Do not have an insatiable appetite for any luxury, and do not give yourself up to food: In the context luxury refers to luxurious food, “fancy food” (Good News Translation). Do not give yourself up to food means “don’t be a glutton” (Good News Translation) or “control your desire to overeat.” Contemporary English Version has a helpful model for this verse:
• Control any desire to overeat
or to have lots of fancy food
at every meal.
